We’re programming like mad! The skit is almost done, but we still have to get the Core Values poster made and the Robot Design Executive Summary written. Our coach likes to think up impossible tasks to practice for the Core Values challenge.
Color Sensor
We’ve been trying to use the light sensor to get us to the runway but it’s been sensing the Nature’s Fury logo and turning there. So we tried the color sensor today and it WORKS!! Yay!
Talking to experts
We have been talking to some tsunami experts from Oregon State University. They have given us some great ideas and information about what to do when there’s a tsunami.
Our choice of disaster-causing event
The natural event we have chosen is a tsunami because our team is amazed by the power it has and we want to help prevent injury and loss of property.
Welcome!
Hello Everyone! We are Fll team Hobbots: The Desolation of Nature. Welcome to our blog!
For those not in Lego League: An explanation of Lego League
First Lego League (FLL) is an organization for kids ages 10 to 15, with 3 to 9 kids on each team. Each year there is a new theme. This year’s theme is Nature’s Fury. Along with the theme comes the challenge. The challenge tells about natural events and the disasters they cause. The FLL teams are asked to choose one of these disasters and develop a new, innovative solution to their chosen disaster. This is the Project part of FLL. There are 3 parts to FLL, the Project, the Robot game, and the Core Values. The Robot game is where teams build a playing field with Lego bricks. On the field are missions which the teams program their Lego Mindstorms robots to complete. The missions are always related to the theme. The Core Values relates to good sportsmanship. Finally, at the end of the season the teams go to competitions where they compete against other teams to continue to the next competition. To learn more, visit www.firstlegoleague.com
Core Values
A helpful hint from us: For your Core Values judging, the judges will ask you what are the Core Values and examples of how your team displayed them this year. Here is the list of all 8. #1 We are a team. #2 We do the work to find solutions with guidance from our coaches and mentors. #3 We know our coaches and mentors don’t have all the answers; we learn together. #4 We honor the spirit of friendly competition. #5 What we discover is more important than what we win. #6 We share our experiences with others. #7 We display Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition in everything we do. #8 We have FUN!!!
